Review: Tokyo Restaurant Nairobi

tokyo

Tokyo restaurant, as the name suggests, serves Japanese food and is one of my favourite places to grab some sushi. There are other restaurants around that offer food that is just as great but the thing about Tokyo that makes it stand out from the rest is it’s garden seating. Eating out there in the cool afternoon breeze makes for a wonderful lunch out with friends and at night, the fairy lights that they have hang up on the trees goes a long way in giving the restaurant a festive feel.

Tokyo’s founder and head chef Mr. Shin has been in business for more than ten year and is one of the few chefs in the country licensed in Japanese cuisine. Initially the restaurant was located in Karen but was moved to Lavington a few years ago which works out great for me because it’s closer to home! Although Mr. Shin is usually busy getting food out to the crowds that gather at Tokyo, he still makes time to came out and have a few words with the guests in an effort to ensure that they are having a pleasant experience.

Very particular about what he serves, the food at Tokyo is top notch…well prepared and doesn’t take a lifetime to appear on the table. I am particularly a fan of the spicy crunchy salmon roll and bora bora mocktail (yeah, they have quite a wide selection of sake, wines, cocktails and mocktails to accompany the delectable meals.

The one thing I don’t like about Tokyo is that it closes from 3pm – 6pm meaning that a late lunch is out of the question.
